Training
The HPLC is committed to education and public awareness of homelessness, human rights and access to justice issues. Each year the HPLC conducts a series of free seminars and training workshops for HPLC lawyers, community legal centre lawyers more generally and community organisations.
Our next training session is:
Applied Tenancy Workshop
for HPLC and Community Lawyers
with Chris Povey, HPLC Senior Lawyer
A limited number of places (a maximum of 25) are available to attend this applied tenancy workshop. After enrolling, participants will be provided with a series of Tribunal documents and asked to prepare arguments for a ‘high needs’ tenant who is at risk of eviction. This case study is based on a matter in which the HPLC acted and covers some relatively complex aspects of the Residential Tenancies Act 1997. While relevant, arguments relating to the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities will not be a central aspect of this matter. Participants will be encouraged to discuss different approaches and issues raised by the case study. Once the case study is completed, participants will be provided with a brief presentation and materials which give an overview of the issues covered.
