Welcome to PilchConnect
The PilchConnect service provides free and low cost legal information for not-for-profit community organisations. We also provide training and, subject to eligibility criteria, are able to refer Victorian not-for-profit community organisations to our member law firms for pro bono (free) legal assistance.

How can this website help your community organisation?
The Legal Information section of PilchConnect's website was launched in November 2008. We will be adding new resources regularly.
The website contains a range of legal information resources, specifically developed for Victorian not-for-profit community organisations. As some of the laws we refer to are passed by the federal government, some of the information may be useful for organisations in other States and Territories. However, if your organisation operates in a State or Territory outside Victoria, different laws may apply.

The resources are ordered in a way that works through the 'life-cycle' of a community organisation. They are designed to help people working in community organisations in Victoria to understand legal issues, such as:
- choosing the right legal structure when setting up a community organisation;
- applying for tax concessions and exemptions;
- managing volunteers and employees;
- understanding health and safety laws and liability issues when holding events;
- complying with fundraising laws, and other laws that impact on the not-for-profit sector.
Access to the legal information resources is available by clicking on the 'life-cycle' image above. Please note that the resources are for general information purposes only, and not a substitute for specific legal advice.
Please Note: If you are from outside Victoria look at each fact sheet carefully - there is a note at the start explaining this point. It is important to check this because for some issues the laws can vary quite a lot between each state and territory.
