Key changes to exemptions, special measures and exceptions under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010
On Tuesday 11 September 2024 PilchConnect, in collaboration with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, held a panel discussion that considered the key changes to exemptions, exception and special measures under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic). Generously hosted by Russell Kennedy Lawyers, this seminar focused on how the changes affect not-for-profit organisations.
Panellists provided information about key changes to exemptions and exception provisions in the Act, and practical guidance to lawyers practicing in the area on how and when an organisation should seek an exemption.
Facilitated by Michael Gorton (AM), Principal at Russell Kennedy Lawyers, the panel of speakers included:
- Genevieve Nihill, Senior Member, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Anti-Discrimination list)
- Cate McKenzie, Senior Sessional Member, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Anti-Discrimination list)
- Anna Dea, Member, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Anti-Discrimination list)
- Melissa Quinn, Registry Officer, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (Anti-Discrimination List)
- Kerin Leonard, Legal Unit Manager, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission)
