Press Release: PILCH wins Community Responsibility Award

PILCH wins the Community Responsibility Award

at the Business 3000 Awards

The Public Interest Law Clearing House (Vic) (PILCH) has won the Business 3000 Community Responsibility Award for its exceptional contribution to facilitating access to justice for thousands of Victorians.

Business 3000 aims to promote success, innovation and excellence in Melbourne and recognises the achievements of both businesses and not-for-profit organisations through its annual awards program. The Business 3000 Committee is partnered with the City of Melbourne and is sponsored by Gadens Lawyers, Cherry Enterprises, De Bortoli Wines, Schepisi Communications, RACV Club, and Method 9.

Twelve companies and not-for-profits are nominated each year in one of four awards categories - Export, Innovation, Community Responsibility and New Business.

Tabitha Lovett, Manager of PILCH, accepted the Community Responsibility Award on behalf of PILCH at the Awards Dinner held last night at the RACV Club.

In accepting the award Ms Lovett commended PILCH’s staff as: “passionate about their work, intelligent, resourceful and dedicated to helping people access justice.” Ms Lovett also praised PILCH members, PILCH’s dedicated Board and the hundreds of lawyers, students and others who volunteer through PILCH.

‘This award is really a tribute to our volunteers and members and their work to protect the rights and dignity of disadvantaged people in our community. Their generosity and commitment to assisting eligible clients on a pro bono basis is a wonderful demonstration of respect for the community in which they work and live’ Ms Lovett said.

‘This year PILCH has assisted over 2000 individuals and organisations to access free legal and related services. Without these much needed services, many Victorians would find it impossible to navigate a complex legal system, secure representation or even be aware of their rights and how to access them.’

PILCH would like to thank the Business 3000 Committee for their recognition and support and congratulates the other nominees in the Community Responsibility category: GlobalTech Water which delivers technology designed to convert wastewater into a safe, clean, reusable commodity and Australian Bush Heritage Fund, a national non-profit organisation which manages a network of conservation reserves across Australia to safeguard threatened wildlife and natural ecosystems.

PILCH is an independent, not-for-profit legal centre which is the major facilitator of pro bono legal services in Victoria
