Youth Homelessness in Australia - A Nation's Shame

The Honorable Alastair Nicholson AO, RFD,QC

The Honorable Alastair Nicholson has had a long and distinguished legal career. Both during and after his role as Chief Justice of the Family Court, Alastair Nicholson has worked tirelessly to promote the human rights of children and young people. In 1997 he chaired the 2nd World Congress on Family Law and the Rights of Children and Youth in  San Francisco. He is the founding patron of Children's Right International and since 1984 has been the Chairman of ACSO,  a charitable organisation devoted to the provision of care, accommodation and counselling to ex prisoners.

Dr Shelley Mallet

Shelley Mallet is the Research Director of Project i, a collaborative project between the University of Melbourne and UCLA that has involved five year longitudinal study of homeless young people in Melbourne and Los Angeles. Shelley has worked for over 10 years in the youth homelessness sector as both a residential youth worker and as a counsellor/mediator with young people. She is an anthropologist with interests in public policy and practice around health, housing and homelessness.

 

Anna Forsyth

Anna Forsyth is the Youth Policy Officer for Victoria's peak homelessness body, the Council to Homeless Persons. Anna is currently looking at the development and implementation of the state government's Youth Homelessness Action Plan. Anna previously worked as a lawyer with the Tenants Union of Victoria.
