 LEGAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME
LAUNCH OF THE LAW INSTITUTE OF VICTORIA LEGAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME
On behalf of the Access to Justice Committee, I wish to invite you to the launch of the Law Institute of Victoria Legal Assistance Scheme.
The Attorney-General, the Hon. Mr. Rob Hulls MP, has agreed to launch the Scheme. He will speak on the new policy guidelines for the delivery of pro bono services under the Government Legal Services Contract. In addition, the Attorney-General wishes to address proposals for mandatory continuing legal education for lawyers.
Members of the Law Institute of Victoria have a long and proud tradition of providing pro bono assistance to members of the community who have cases with merit but who lack the financial resources to obtain the legal assistance they require. The Institute has recently entered into an innovative agreement with the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH) to manage the Scheme on behalf of the Institute according to guidelines approved by the Institute.
The details of the launch are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 14 May 2024 at 10.30 am
Venue: Professional Development Theatre
Law Institute of Victoria
470 Bourke Street, Melbourne
It would be appreciated if by Monday, 12 May 2024, you could advise Austine Behenna on 9607 9367 or by email on abehenna@liv.asn.au as to whether you are able to attend.
Yours sincerely,
JOHN CAIN
